E. L. Spear is Rockland's second oldest family business, founded in 1900 by Everett L. Spear. It was originally opened as a general construction firm and building supplies store at 615 Main Street. Everett was a mason and built many buildings in the Rockland area, some of which form today’s iconic Main Street.

In 1921 his son Erwin joined the company starting a family tradition. Erwin expanded the business to logging, sawmills and millwork manufacturing to meet the communities’ needs during the 1920's and 30’s. Erwin’s son Everett II joined the company after serving in the Army during WWII. As president Everett II expanded the supply of hardware and building materials offered, partnering with ACE Hardware in 1991 giving us the opportunity to offer consumer goods at a fair price to the community.

Since 2003 Everett II’s sons Everett III and Bill have continued the tradition of providing the highest quality of service to local businesses and customers for all their building needs. In 2016 E. L. Spear partnered with LBM Advantage to further expand our network and ability to offer fair pricing on building supplies. Everett III's sons Lincoln and Preston have since joined the company, continuing the family legacy now five generations strong.
